Anatomic Variations of Extrahepatic Bile Ducts and Evaluation of the Length of Ducts Composing the Cystohepatic Triangle International Journal of Morphology
Cachoeira,Eduardo; Rivas,Antonio; Gabrielli,Carla.
It is of paramount importance for surgeons to have a thorough knowledge of the normal anatomy of the extrahepatic bile ducts and its variations due to the high frequency with which they perform in this anatomic site. The cystohepatic triangle, or Calot's Triangle, is bound by the cystic duct, common hepatic duct, and the hepatic border; therefore, its surface area depends on the conformation of these ducts and is closely linked to surgical procedures performed in this region. It has been reported that the length and the position of these ducts may be related to the formation of bile duct stones, Mirizzi's syndrome, and bile duct cancer. Thus, the present work aims to analyze the configuration of the extrahepatic biliary tree and its possible variations, as...

Evaluating Accuracy and Precisión in Morphologic Traits for Sexual Dimorphism in Malnutrition Human Skull: a Comparative Study International Journal of Morphology
Suazo Galdames,Iván Claudio; Zavando Matamala,Daniela Alejandra; Smith,Ricardo Luiz.
One of the most important purposes of anthropological studies of human skeletons protocol is the determination of sex. Some skulls may be wrongly classified due to systemic conditions presented during the life of individuáis who affected the muscle forces that act on bones, as is the case of severe malnutrition. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of severe malnutrition on morphological determinan ts of sexual dimorphism classically studied in the visual analysis of the skull. 163 human skulls were analized with sex, age and cause of death known, belonging to the collection of Universidad Federal de Sao Paulo (UNIFESP). We performed visual inspection of the skull and diagnosis of sex based on size and overall architecture of the skull, an...

Ultrastructural Effects of the Propineb on Brain of Fetuses During Rat Pregnancy International Journal of Morphology
Ekinci,C; Tahaoglu,A. E; Yavuz,D; Deveci,E; Aktas,A; Yilmaz,T; Yumusak,Ö; Yükselmis,O.
Propineb is a fungicide with a propylene-bis-dithiocarbamate structure. Pregnant Wistar rats were exposed to 400 ppm propineb concentrations in 5 ml distilled water, 5 days per week until the end of pregnancy. The rats were treated with propineb for 16 days and the brains of litter rats were sacrificed at first day of birth after which their brains were collected. Ultrastructural examination of the brains of the fetuses and propineb-treated pregnant females revealed a variety of histopathological effects. We suggest that mitochondrial damage may be an effective factor for neuron necrosis. These results supported the proposal that the exposure to fungicides such as propineb and to other naturally occurring compounds which inhibit mitochondrial function, may...

Variaciones Anatómicas Radiculares y Sistemas de Canales International Journal of Morphology
Oporto V,Gonzalo H; Fuentes F,Ramón E; Soto P,Camila C.

Valenzuela O,Marcos; Azocar S,Camila; Werner F,Krystel; Vega P,Eduardo; Valdés G,Fabio.

Comparative Scanning Electron Microscopy of Platelets and Fibrin Networks of Human and Differents Animals International Journal of Morphology
Pretorius,E; Vieira,W. A; Oberholzer,H. M; Auer,R. E. J.
The purpose of the present study was to compare the platelet and fibrin network ultrastructure of humans to eight different animal species in order to determine the differences between human and animal platelet and fibrin morphology, and to determine whether the animals studied differ in their platelet and fibrin morphology, and whether these differences can be observed by scanning electron microscopy. Platelets and fibrin networks play an important role both in the coagulation process as well as physiologically in allergic processes and immunological mechanisms. The thickness of human fibrin networks were compared to mouse (Mus musculus), equine (Equus caballus), vervet monkey (Chlorocebus aethiops previously Cercopithecus aethiops), oryx (Oryx gazella),...

Predicting Horse Skin Weight from Carcass Weight International Journal of Morphology
Parés i Casanova,P. M.
A study was conducted to provide information on the skin weight of Pyrenean horses and to determine whether there is a measurement to predict this based on carcass weight. Hot carcass weight (HCW) and fresh skin weight (SW) were recorded for 58 horses aged 12 months entering a Catalan commercial slaughter facility between September 2009 and June 2010. Data on the breeder, age and coat characteristics were collected and subsequently collated for each animal. Prior to analysis, horses were subdivided into sex and coat groups. Data did not differ (P < 0.001) among these. The absence of differences in SW could be viewed as a reflection of limited nutritional differences between seasons. Regression procedures were used to develop equations to predict SW from...

Anomalous Origin of Obturator Artery from the Internal Iliac Artery International Journal of Morphology
Kumar,Dinesh; Rath,Gayatri.
Obturator arteryis frequently a branch of anterior division of internal iliac artery or one of the parietal branches of internal iliac artery. But it has attracted attention of pelvic surgeons and anatomists and radiologists because of the high frequency of the variation in its course and origin. The present report demonstrates obturator artery to be arising from the posterior division of internal iliac artery out of 316 pelvises, a rare observation in Indian population. The variation is correlated developmentally and its clinical implications are also discussed
